LPNs continue to earn more than HEU-represented LPNs in the facilities agreement and RN wages stay on par with BCNU's provincial collective agreement

BCNU members at Calibre Health Services have overwhelmingly ratified a new two-year collective agreement locking in significant gains for all members. The members at Calibre provide health and support services at BC provincial jails.

There were no rollbacks in any area of the agreement to pay for wage increases. The new agreement produced gains in all areas identified as priorities by the elected bargaining committee.

Highlights of the new agreement are:

  • Wage Increases. Three percent annual increases for all classifications. LPN wages will continue to be higher than HEU-represented LPNs in the facilities agreement and RN wages stay on par with BCNU's provincial collective agreement.

  • Past service recognition. Employees will receive full credit for all previous experience in their classification with no limitations. All restrictions on past-service bridging periods are removed.

  • Clinical leadership relief. Set rates of pay will apply for RNs, RPNs and Mental Health Screeners when relieving the Mental Health Coordinator.

  • Pension improvements. Improvements to the pension contribution rate. Each employee can set their contribution rate in the range between 4.25 percent and 5 percent.

  • Time bank improvements.
    • The time bank maximum is increased from 105 to 125 hours.

    • Language to access time off from the bank has been significantly strengthened. With two weeks' notice the employer must make every possible effort to award employee time-off requests.

  • Sick leave improvements. The accumulation of sick leave credits is increased from 8.75 to 10 hours per month.

  • Terms for casual employees are improved.
    • Casual employees in temporary assignments of four months or more will receive full benefits.

    • Seniority rights of casual employees are improved by limiting out-of-seniority call-ins.

  • Professional development in-services are improved. There will be two employee requested in-services per year. Employees will determine the topics based on their professional development needs.
